Schurft, een aandoening die een actieve rol van de apotheker vraagt
S. Peeters1
Farmaceutisch Tijdschrift voor België – 16 99ste jaargang nr. 1 - maart 2019
Summary
Scabies is a benign but highly contagious
condition caused by a mite. Epidemiological
signals indicate that the prevalence of scabies
is increasing. The pharmacist is regularly
confronted with cases of scabies and his
role is essential in this condition. Successful
treatment requires correct implementation
and precise hygiene measures, which
requires a large amount of information to be
provided.
This article describes the different types of
scabies and describes in detail how to treat
the types encountered most frequently at
the pharmacy. For common scabies or infant
scabies, the possible treatments are detailed.
The article compares their respective
efficiencies, the modalities of implementation,
the different possible application schemes
and the cost, which explains why secondline
treatments are still very widespread.
For the treatment of forms that are common
in institutions (crustosa scabies), but less
common in pharmacies, the pharmacy team
should follow regional guidelines. This
article also explains how to decontaminate
laundry and what should be treated. This
is an important point for the success of the
treatment. Products that may be used to treat
the environment are mentioned too.
The article ends with the action to take in
case of itching and treatment failure and also
answers some frequently asked questions:
the measures to be taken by the pharmacy
staff after contact with an infected patient
as well as the possible contagion by pets.
A checklist at the end of the article
summarizes the information to be given
to the patient and indicates where the
different folders can be found to support the
explanation.
Samenvatting
Schurft (scabiës) is een goedaardige, maar
zeer besmettelijke aandoening, veroorzaakt
door een mijt. Epidemiologische signalen
geven aan dat de prevalentie van scabiës
toeneemt. De apotheker wordt regelmatig
geconfronteerd met patiënten met schurft en
zijn rol is daarbij essentieel. Een succesvolle
behandeling vereist een correcte toepassing
en nauwkeurige hygiënemaatregelen. De
apotheker moet de patiënt hierover goed
informeren.
Dit artikel beschrijft de verschillende
soorten schurft en detailleert de behandeling
van de meest voorkomende typen in de
apotheek. Voor gewone schurft of schurft bij
zuigelingen zijn de mogelijke behandelingen
in detail beschreven. Het artikel vergelijkt
hun respectieve werkzaamheid, de wijze
van uitvoering, de verschillende mogelijke
toepassingsschema’s en de kosten, die
verklaren waarom tweedelijnsbehandelingen
nog steeds zeer gebruikelijk zijn. Voor de
behandeling van vormen die gebruikelijk zijn
in gemeenschappen (scabiës crustosa), maar
minder frequent voorkomen in apotheken,
moet het apotheekteam de regionale
richtlijnen volgen.
mondelinge uitleg.
